LEGACY SCHOLARS

The Legacy Scholars Scholarship is a first-dollar scholarship to Kellogg Community College that provides up to 62 credit hours of tuition and mandatory fees, as well as four book stipends of up to $500 each for required books and materials to be purchased at the Bruin Bookstore.

Legacy Scholars Eligibility

Legacy Scholars eligibility is based on continuous enrollment in an eligible district (Battle Creek Public Schools or Lakeview School District) and students must graduate from one of the following high schools in Battle Creek:

• Battle Creek Central High School
• Calhoun Community High School
• Lakeview High School
• Lakeview Alternative
• W.K. Preparatory High School

Students are eligible for the Legacy Scholarship within five years of graduating from High School.

Scholarship eligibility is based on continuous enrollment in an eligible district from eighth grade through graduation. The table below indicates the percentage you are eligible for based on your entrance into the school district.

For example, a student who completed 8th grade in a BCPS and graduated from Battle Creek Central would be eligible for 62 credit hours at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. A student who started 10th grade and graduated from Lakeview would be eligible for 31 credit hours at Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

Legacy Scholarship Application Steps

Please complete the following steps in order to utilize the Legacy Scholarship at Â鶹ÊÓƵ:

1. Submit a Legacy Scholar Enrollment Form through the .
2. and complete the necessary enrollment steps.
3. Optional but encouraged- to Â鶹ÊÓƵ and complete necessary additional documents. The FAFSA can be completed any time after Oct. 1 of the student’s senior year in high school.

• Do I need to apply every year for the Legacy Scholarship?
  • No, students only need to complete the Legacy Scholar Enrollment form one-time.
• Are there any requirements to keep the Legacy Scholarship?
  • Students must be in good academic standing at Â鶹ÊÓƵ (not on academic probation) to continue to receive tuition and fee support.
• Do I have to pay money if I withdraw from a class?
  • No, you do not lose your scholarship if you need to withdraw from a class. But those credits still get deducted from the total credits you are eligible for.
• How many credits do I have to take a semester?
  • Students must take 6 credits during a semester to receive the Legacy Scholarship.
• Can I use the Legacy Scholarship at a different college or university?
  • No, it can only be applied to classes at Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
• Do I have to apply for FAFSA if I receive the Legacy Scholarship?
  • As of August 2022, the FAFSA is no longer required as part of the Legacy Scholarship process. Students are highly encouraged to submit the FAFSA each academic year as they may be eligible for additional funding that could be used for other college expenses like food, transportation, rent, and childcare.
• Can you be a guest student and take classes at Â鶹ÊÓƵ while at another university?
  • Yes! If you attend another institution but plan to take a few courses at Â鶹ÊÓƵ while on break, you can use your Legacy Scholars Scholarship while you attend Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Be sure to apply by the posted deadline each year and notify the Legacy Scholars office of your desire to take summer classes. Attending Â鶹ÊÓƵ as a guest student is smart and financially responsible and may help you graduate faster. It is essential to talk with your home institution about the transferability of courses from Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
